NEW STUDY: Plant-Based Foods for Dogs - for the WIN!
"Domestic dogs maintain clinical, nutritional, and hematological health outcomes when fed a commercial plant-based diet for a year"
As I opened up the email with this headline the other day, I immediately looked right at my border collie, Seva, and said out loud to her, "Well, we already knew this, didn't we"?
It's been over 30 years since I first started researching plant-based diets for dogs. This led me to feed a plant-based diet for 13 years to my first border collie, Shanti. Which then led me to the development of Virchew. As you can imagine, I've examined and experienced this topic from every possible angle, both personally and professionally.
Since 2010, my intention as an entrepreneur and founder of Virchew is to ask deeper questions to find new, maybe even bold solutions, backed by the support of our veterinary partnerships and nutrition programs. I know without a doubt, due to market demands from discerning paw parents questioning sustainability and ingredient transparency - along with a rapidly growing interest in plant-protein foods - it’s time to write a NEW story about canine nutrition and diets. The evidence from these long-overdue studies will be part of that new, industry-busting story.
The future of healthcare for dogs is very promising as we begin to uncover dietary solutions for dogs through Virchew and our veterinary partners.
We welcome you to join us as we continue to serve up foods, services and more success stories for our furry companions.
We applaud the researchers and all contributors of this study. Here's the link:
